Download a YouTube Video

Ever wanted to download a YouTube video to watch later? No need to purchase third-party applications. This feature comes built into Apple's Safari browser.

1. Start the video in Safari and hit OPT+COM+A to bring up the activity window.

2. Then simply find the largest file (usually multiple MB) and double click it. It’s as easy as that!

3. This trick usually results in a 'video playback file'. If the file has no extension after downloading, simply add .flv and then open with Quicktime.

4. After it opens and plays in QT, save it as a QT movie.

If QT will not open the .flv file, you need to download and install the Perian plugin for QuickTime. It will be located in your System Preferences window after installed. Reboot.

(Note: The latest version 1.2.3 of Perian doesn't work on Mac OS X Lion. So if you have a Mac running Mac OS X 10.7, you have to downgrade to the previous version of Perian such as 1.2.2)
