John, our guest presenter from the Wayland MUG, gave a step-by-step demo of how one might set up and use FileMaker Pro Advance to organize the endless stream of data flooding our lives daily. He also shared some of his entrepreneurial vision for helping local businesses break out of past modes of thinking. He definitely had some of our heads spinning. Jack shared some of his uses of an earlier version of FileMaker to keep track of the many historical railroad documents he had compiled over the years. Trial downloads of older FM versions are available to update very old FM files. Academic discounts are available for FileMaker Pro (student/ teacher/ parent of student) - $179. Bento is the entry-level filemaker software.($49) - Leopard required. NEWS $$$ Warnings - 1) A couple local mac users have received an alert from SmallDog.com regarding an issue with credit card data at their business, suggesting that recent customers should keep a close eye for unexplained charges. 2) ServU, the local credit union, has posted a scam warning on its website regarding fraudulent phone calls about ATM/Debit cards. Don't ever give your PIN number over the phone to an unsolicted caller. 3) Tom shared about an odd $1 credit card charge from Apple recently. He later read an article at Tidbits which helped explain this increasingly popular business strategy used to verify upcoming billing charges.
