April 29 , 2013 - Hammondsport Mac Users Group ATTENDING: Tom B, Bob S, Jerry L, Gene N, Janet S, Nancy D and Bill N. TOPIC : Old School
Thanks to Bob S for sharing the website of Susan Kare who designed many of the early Apple icons such as Clarus. See how to make your own animated GIFs using the free app GIFfun. Jerry shared pictures and interesting details of IBM computers from his college days. The HMUG group took a trip down memory lane by looking at some of the highlights of Apple computers over the past 40 years. Tom showed a history of Apple innovations and products which had a major impact on the computers we use today. He also brought a vintage 1993 PowerBook 520c (which wouldn't power up - it turned out the AC adapter had failed). An intact and working first generation Apple-1 computer that originally sold for $666.66 in 1976, recently brought $374,500 at a Sotheby’s auction in New York. There are believed to be less than 50 of these rare 36-year-old Apple-1 computers, and only about half a dozen are still known to work. Story from IT NEWS .
The Macintosh was introduced in this famous Super Bowl ad of 1984.
