TOPIC : HOW TO BACKUP YOUR HARDDRIVE WITHOUT USING THE CLOUD

STEP 1

Find or buy an external backup HD.
(1TB HD currently available at OWC for $37)

STEP 2

Format the backup HD for your computer using Disk Utility

Disk Utility is found in the Utilities folder (Finder>Go>Utilities) and can be used for many things, including formatting, partitioning or erasing a Hard Drive, USB Drive, or other external disk. Also it can help repair some problems, and provide overall information about the health of the disk

STEP 3

Clone your computer HD to your backup HD using one of the following backup apps:

Time Machine (found in Mac Applications folder) - see Apple's 'how to use' here.

Carbon Copy Cloner (from Bombich) - 30-day free trial or buy for $49.

SuperDuper! (from Shirt-Pocket) - free to use forever in basic clone mode or buy for $27.
